DO BREAKDOWNS OR FAILURES AFFECT YOUR PRODUCTION?

OUR SYSTEMS

Extraction Solutions provide bespoke, engineered dust extraction systems. Our systems currently provide a safe working environments for thousands of employees in industries such as kitchen manufacture, composite door manufacture, and wood recycling. Our goal is to provide our customers good quality, energy efficient LEV systems and great customer service.

We design our systems to be easily manageable and many system functions can be automated. We also aim to reduce the need for on going maintenance and ensure that we install the most energy efficient solution possible. Our Cyclofilter has no internal moving parts which dramatically reduces potential failures. Alternatively for the ultimate energy efficient solution, we have a range of filters with a unique cascading fan system. This design automatically starts or stops the in built fans depending on the how many machines are required.

KEY ASPECTS OF OUR DUST EXTRACTION SYSTEMS

HOW WE WORK

WHY UPGRADE YOUR EXTRACTION?

Among the many reasons to improve or replace an existing dust extraction system, first and foremost should be exposure to employees. Extraction systems should control dust breakout “as far as reasonably practicable” and ensure that exposure is kept below the workplace exposure limit (WEL). Removing dust not only improves air quality but also lowers the risk of fire too and reduces the build-up of dust around integral machine parts.

Another important consideration to updating your existing dust extraction system is health and safety. Extraction systems handling potentially explosive materials should adhere to ATEX regulations. This sets out the minimum safety aspects a dust extraction system should have to reduce or remove risks to life and property in the event of an explosion. All dust extraction units installed after July 2003 should follow these guidelines.

Improving your LEV systems not only benefits your employee’s health and safety but can also increase productivity and the quality of your finished product. Time spent fault finding or repairing your dust extraction system affects production. Similarly, poor dust removal can leave a poor finish on workpieces meaning more re-works and do-overs.

THE THREE CLASSIFICATIONS OF DUST EXTRACTION

There are three levels of classification of dust extraction: low, medium, and high. The different classifications are suitable for extracting different materials, so which dust extraction system you need will depend on which type of dust you are working with and how harmful it is.

‘L’ or low-class dust systems are suitable for softwoods such as cedar and pine. ‘M’ or medium class extraction units are suitable for hardwoods such as bricks or concrete. ‘H’ or high-class dust systems are built to extract more harmful materials such as asbestos, having the highest level of filtration.

To keep all of your employees safe, it’s crucial, by law, that you have the correct dust extraction system for the job. Having the correct extraction unit keeps potentially harmful dust particles contained, improving air quality and removing the potential risk of a fire.

DUST EXTRACTION FAQS

What is the main reason for dust extraction?

Dust extraction prolongs the life of your work tools, so they aren’t clogged up, saving you money and time. Using a dust extraction system can increase the lifespan of your work tools by up to three times longer.

It’s also extremely important for health and safety so that the air doesn’t contain harmful dust particles and contaminants which could make your employees fall ill.

Can I use a vacuum cleaner for dust extraction?

Vacuum cleaners are suitable for cleaning up small amounts of material dust, however, they do not offer full-scale filtration as dust extraction systems do. It’s always best to opt for a dust extraction unit to remove dust, as this ensures the air does not contain harmful particles as well as thoroughly cleaning your work tools to increase their lifespan.

How does dust extraction work?

Dust extraction systems work by drawing in dust particles from the air through a filter that separates the dust from the air and discharges the purified air back into the environment.

EFFICIENT, SUSTAINABLE, CLEAN AIR

Providing a clean and health workspace for your employees is an essential investment. Our dust extraction systems can be engineered to run at minimal cost which has a positive effect on both profit and the environment.

Well thought out solutions can provide a vast reduction in volume requirements. For example, if your current system runs 100% of your machines, yet you only require extraction to 60% of machines at one time. There is a potential 40% reduction in extraction volumes which could amount to a huge saving in running costs.

These ‘on demand’ duct systems use automatic dampers which open/close when a machine is required. The inverter controlled fans will automatically optimise the speed, ensuring that in-duct velocities remain adequate. Unlike other similar systems, our solutions will not allow dust to build up inside the duct and no special controls are required.

SAVE ENERGY / REDUCE COSTS

Below is an example of how even a small reduction in extraction volume can have a large reduction in running costs; If a workshop has 10 machines, but only 4 operators, then only 4 machines can be used at one time. The duct system can be designed so that a number of machines can be closed off without reducing in-duct velocities. This can dramatically reduce the power requirements and therefore running costs.
